Line 1: Line 1:
The Guess the Opening puzzle works like a chess version of Wordle: a line from your repertoire is chosen, and you must guess the moves step by step. After each attempt, you get feedback to guide your next guess until you find the correct sequence. It’s a fun way to test your recall of repertoire lines and sharpen your move recognition skills.

The Guess the Opening puzzle is a chess take on Wordle: you start from an empty board and reconstruct a complete opening line from your repertoire. Enter your moves in sequence, submit your attempt, and use the concise feedback to refine your next try.

This puzzle helps you to:

  • + Strengthen long-term recall through full-sequence reconstruction from memory.
  • + Improve precision in move order and pattern recognition across your openings.

You can choose how many moves to play and which colour to play from; this determines which of your repertoires (White/Black) the line is sourced from. Click New Game to generate a fresh challenge, then enter your moves directly on the chessboard.

After completing the line, click Guess to check your attempt:

  • Green — the right move in the right position.
  • Orange — a move from the line, but in the wrong position.

You have up to 6 attempts to complete the full line. Use the controls to manage your run:

  • Clear: Reset the board and your current guess.
  • Autocomplete: Fill the line with the correct sequence (useful for quick review).

When finished, use the button to open the current position in your Repertoire Builder for deeper study and context.
