The Repertoire Builder offers a free tier to get you started. If you need more room, you can upgrade your account to increase your limits. Go to My Profile → Upgrade to begin.

Free Tier

Every account comes with generous free usage limits inside the Repertoire Builder to explore all available functionality:

• ◦ 2,000 moves in total repertoire storage
• ◦ 20 repertoires for organizing your openings and variations
• ◦ 200 library items — games, studies, and personal analyses
• ◦ 500 items within the repertoire tree

Note: These free quotas are designed to be more than enough to give the Repertoire Builder a proper test drive and explore all of its core features before upgrading.

Member perks

All membership levels include the following perks:

Note: The Basic Tier is ideal if you're building multiple repertoires, storing personal analyses, or studying broad opening systems that exceed the Free Tier limits.

Pro Tier ($12.99 Per Month)

Designed for dedicated players, coaches, and professionals — the Pro Tier gives you the full power of the Repertoire Builder with expansive storage and advanced study capacity.

• ◦ 60,000 moves of total repertoire storage — build complete, multi-branch systems covering every variation
• ◦ 1,000 repertoires to organize extensive preparation by color, opponent, or training focus
• ◦ 2,000 library items — store large collections of games, studies, and deep personal analyses
• ◦ 5,000 nodes within your repertoire tree for maximum depth, flexibility, and reference tracking

Note: The Pro Tier is the total package — ideal for players who want to centralize their entire opening preparation, maintain deep study archives, and train with professional precision.

How upgrading works

Here’s how the upgrade works in two quick steps:

• + Phase 1 — Connect your account to Patreon
  Connect your Repertoire Builder account to Patreon so the app can securely recognize your membership and apply the correct limits.
• + Phase 2 — Choose a Patreon tier
  After connecting, choose your tier on the Patreon membership page. When you return and refresh the Upgrade page, your new limits will be applied.

Note: You can subscribe on Patreon at any time—before or after creating your account. As long as you use the same email address for both Patreon and Repertoire Builder, we'll automatically link your accounts and grant you access to your subscription benefits.

What is Patreon?

Patreon is a membership platform that allows people to directly support the creators and projects they value through small monthly contributions. It’s designed to give creators a sustainable way to continue building, maintaining, and improving their work — while giving supporters a simple way to contribute and receive benefits in return.

Payments are handled securely by Patreon (we do not store your card details). Linking Patreon to Chessboard Magic lets your membership level unlock higher account limits.

Step-by-step

• + Open My Profile → Upgrade and click Connect to Patreon. Sign in (or create a Patreon account).
• + On Patreon, choose your preferred tier on the Patreon membership page and confirm membership.
• + Return to Chessboard Magic and refresh the page. Your account limits should update.

Processing time

Upgrades should apply instantly. In some cases there may be a short delay (about 30–60 seconds) while Patreon confirms your membership and the app updates your limits. If it doesn’t update right away, refresh the page after a minute.

Cancel anytime

• + You can cancel your Patreon membership at any time via Patreon. Your account keeps its current limits for the remainder of the paid period, then automatically reverts to the free tier.

Troubleshooting

• + If limits don’t update: wait 60 seconds, refresh, or sign out and back in.
