The Tools in Chessboard Magic extend the Repertoire Builder with powerful ways to analyze, explore, and improve your chess. They connect to online services like Lichess and Chess.com, import your own games and PGNs, and provide focused insights into your play. From building reference trees and scouting players to analyzing time usage and opening priorities, these tools give you a broader perspective on your repertoire and help you target the areas that matter most.

Tool Why Use This Tool
Reference Tree Build and maintain your personal reference database. Import games from Chess.com, Lichess, or PGN files to create a comprehensive Reference Tree that can be compared with your repertoires.

Easily export or import trees, align your lines with theoretical sources, and use the reference data throughout the Repertoire Builder.

User Scout Analyze any player’s games — including your own. Import directly from Chess.com or Lichess to view detailed statistics on a player’s openings, preferences, and performance.

Discover what positions they favor, explore complete games, and spot recurring trends to guide preparation and improvement.

Time Usage Analysis Examine how you manage your time across your games. Identify the moments where you spent the most time or played quickly, helping you recognize decision-making patterns and improve your time efficiency in future games.

This tool is ideal for refining practical play and tournament performance.

Opening Priorities Understand which openings cost you the most time early in the game. By analyzing your online games, this tool highlights the openings where you hesitate or think longest — helping you prioritize which lines need more study and practice within your repertoire.

Tip: Tools can be used independently or in combination with your repertoires and libraries to uncover deep insights into your preparation, performance, and progress.
