Standard Puzzles lets you train your tactical skills using a large, curated puzzle database. Puzzles can be filtered by rating, side to play, theme, and opening, allowing you to focus on positions that best match your training goals. Each puzzle is rated and adapts to your performance, providing a structured and measurable way to improve calculation, pattern recognition, and decision-making.
At the top of the page, you can see your current puzzle rating along with your all-time statistics, giving you immediate feedback on long-term progress.
This feature helps you:
- + Train tactical awareness using a large and diverse puzzle database
- + Focus training on specific themes, openings, and difficulty ranges
- + Track improvement with a dynamic rating and detailed performance statistics
Controls
The Controls section manages puzzle selection, progress tracking, and session feedback.
At the top of the page, your current puzzle rating and all-time statistics are displayed. Puzzle outcomes are categorized as follows:
- ◦ Perfect: The puzzle was solved correctly on the first attempt.
- ◦ Solved: The puzzle was solved correctly after one or more incorrect attempts.
- ◦ Failed: The puzzle was abandoned or not solved correctly.
You can reset your puzzle statistics at any time to restart long-term progress tracking.
The Filter Card allows you to control which puzzles are generated. The following options are available:
- ◦ Rating Range: Select the difficulty range of puzzles to generate.
- ◦ Side to Play: Choose White, Black, or All.
- ◦ Theme: Filter by tactical motifs such as Mate in 1, Fork, or Deflection.
- ◦ Opening: Restrict puzzles to positions arising from specific openings.
Once your filters are set, click Get Puzzle to generate a list of matching puzzles.
The Puzzle Session Card tracks your progress during the current session. It displays:
- ◦ Number of puzzles solved perfectly
- ◦ Puzzles solved after retries
- ◦ Failed puzzles
- ◦ Rating change for the current session
You can click on any puzzle listed in the session card to retry it, making it easy to review mistakes or reinforce key patterns.
Solution
After completing a puzzle, the Solution view is shown. This includes:
- ◦ Your rating change resulting from the puzzle
- ◦ The correct solution line
- ◦ Puzzle metadata including number of plays, rating, popularity, themes, and opening
- ◦ A link to the original game from which the puzzle was derived
You can rate the puzzle as Good or Bad. This feedback influences how frequently the puzzle is shown in future sessions.
Below the solution, a Stockfish analysis card is available, allowing you to explore incorrect attempts and alternative continuations in more detail.
